DIRT GARAGE: VALUE FOR MONEY - DR TRIM SEAT

Value for Money is a homage to products and services out there that we have used personally for many years that have proven their weight in cold hard cash. Ipso facto - they prove to be real value for money.

To start off, we are looking at the DR Trim seat cover.

Current state of my 4+ year old DR Trim seat.

We have already done a full review on the DR Trim moto seat cover, which you can find right here

This particular seat that I had modified by Roger at DR Trim was for the 2009 CRF450R I bought to race the 2016 National Enduro Champs on. I had just been released from my 4-year tenure at Yamaha NZ but still wanted to keep racing for national titles. So I found a cheap ‘09 that needed a bit of work and started the project.

Even though you can see some fabric wear, she still grips great

I’m tall and having used tall seats before I wanted another one for the 450, plus something that was a lot more grippy when the mud down south came into play during the season. Roger modified my stock Honda seat by giving it his ribbed gripper seat design, as well as also raising the seat by about 25mm at the same time. I really like that you can choose your own favourite colour scheme at no extra cost, and also have some personal detail thrown in if you feel the need. In this case, I had ‘Old Timer’ stitched into the side of the seat - a reminder of the age of the bike compared to most others I was racing against and the increasing age of myself too.

The pleats are what give the seat so much stick-to-your-ass power.

The price for the full treatment on the seat retails for around $250 ish, depending on what you are after. Whether that be just a straight grip cover, ribbed seat, taller or lower height, personal tag line etc...pretty much whatever you want to be done to your seat, Roger will price you up for it.

So what makes these seats value for money? They last...like, I mean really last. I had this seat made at the beginning of 2016 and here we are today, June of 2020 and the seat works just as well as ever. Actually I could argue that it works better now than when it did when it was new.

Bit more wear on the high use area where my legs have been rubbing over the years.

Still in goo dnick and should be for a while longer.

The thing with the material and design that DR Trim uses is that the seat becomes so grippy that it’s almost too good. This seat cover, 4 years on, still keeps me in place during mud rides, but feels a little softer and a little less abrasive on the riding pants. I have raced 3.5 enduro seasons, 3 Dirt Guide seasons, maybe 40+ trail rides and a shit tonne of practicing with this seat and it is still race-ready. Yes, the patch is starting to fray as that is a high use area where my legs rub against the seat. Some stitching is starting to show but again with over 4 years of use this cover has more than done its job...and then some.

How many other products can you think of that will last this long that gets as much use as a seat? And what’s more... I actually paid for the seat cover so this isn’t just a sponsored advertorial. These types of products are hard to find in our off-road dirtbike world, so when you find a great product that works like it should and lasts a bloody long time, then I think everyone should know about it.

Roger might have shot himself in the foot by making a product that lasts for years.

You can investigate your very one DR Trim seat cover by going to www.drtrim.co.nz or visit their Facebook site and send them a message.

DR Trim seat covers are most definitely value for money - and you can put a Dirt Garage Stamp on that.

This is what a brand new seat looks like - this one is on my 2004 CR125.
