QUEENS CATCH UP: CHRISSY TUCK

This installment of the popular ‘Queens Catch Up’ sees international rider Chrissy Tuck from Te Puke pilot a KLX650 through Bolivia on a two-week ride with Britton Adventures. And if you don’t know what a KLX650 is - Google it. Hashtag massive! She may be a lady of few words, but Chrissy is one tough chick and features in this week’s Queens Catch Up.

Bike: KTM 200 EXC

Been riding for: Had a go in my early 20’s then life got in the way, but have been back riding for the past 2 years.

How did you get into riding dirt bikes and who encouraged you?

My Dad, he’s ridden Dirt Bikes most of his life

Getting some coaching at the Rise of the Queens event.

What was your first bike and why?

My first bike was CRF150 because Dad said it was the best starter bike.

What was the first thing you learned when you started riding?

How heavy a bike is when you have to pick it up!!.

What was the first thing you wish you knew/someone had told you when you started riding?

How addictive it was going to be!

What did you initially find easy about riding dirt bikes?

How much I loved it!

What do you still struggle with when out on the trail?

Um,,,maybe when the tracks been riding over heaps and it starts getting really rutty and bumpy!

Sometimes you just need some shade and H2O.

What is the best tip/trick/piece of advice you have had over your riding career?

Advice on how to corner has been awesome.

Why are you riding the bike you are on right now, and what do you like most about it?

I wanted to step up in size but wasn’t sure on the 250 four strokes as they are quite heavy and a girlfriend rides the EXC 200 so I had a go on hers and loved it!

What would be the one thing you could change about your current bike?

Not much, but if I had to make a call it would be the height, I’ve had it lowered but it’s still quite high to stop and start.

She would just like it to be a smidgen lower.

Where/who do you get your inspiration/advice/tips/ tricks from right now?

Definitely all the lady’s who run the queens of dirt they are amazing! My Dad for sure and my friends.

If money was no problem, what is your ideal dream bike?

I think the new TPI 150 Husky or KTM.

Your bike doesn't start - who do you call?

Usually my Dad and sometimes I’ll ask my mate, Roger.

What kind of riding do you enjoy doing the most?

Definitely trail/off road, but any type of bike I’m keen! mud is good fun!

What is one piece of advice that you would give other girls thinking about getting into dirt bikes?

Make sure you start on a small bike to get some confidence and skills before you step up.
