GEAR REVIEW: MXF PRO RIDER S GLOVES

Being a company that does gloves exclusively, there is no compromise in the design and features of the Five lineup.

Mesh top side provides amazing ventilation - but a downfall during winter riding.

I’ve had the pleasure of running the new MXF PRO RIDER S gloves for a full season now and let me tell you...the situation is good news. The ‘S’ is the next level up from the popular (in Europe) and original MXF. It is even more lightweight, thinner, stretchy and breathable which tends to lead this glove towards summer riding. I can attest to this with running this glove at an enduro in the South island at near freezing temperatures. My hands went numb pretty quickly, but I would have been surprised if any glove could have kept that cold out. The top side is made from a single piece of YP mesh so nice and breathable but also not warm when it’s cold. But as Five’s top of the line moto glove, it’s not designed for the blistering cold.

Nanofront looks thin but does a lot towards blister protection

Being a guy who also runs palm savers every ride, it is important to me that I have as much layering on the palm as possible to stop the blisters that I am prone to. The MXF PRO RIDER S is a relatively thin glove, which was something I was concerned about. I don’t like the single layers gloves that riders say give a direct feel to the grips. Give me 15 minutes on the track and I’m nursing blisters for days. The MXF PRO RIDER S punches well above its weight in the padding department. The thumbs feature a comfort gel at the contact points that helps reduce blisters and some gel padding on the palm to assist there too, and help dampen the shock in a crash. The material on the palm is Nanofront™ which looks thin but does a great job of giving good feeling and connection to the grips and keeping blisters at bay.

There is a tab to help pull the glove on properly, which I always forget to use, until I do. The velcro closure helps keep the dirt out. You can use the gloves on your smartphone which is handy for those selfies and quick action pics and they have in a range of colours for you to pair with just about any gear set and design out there.

The Dirt

In a nutshell, not a full double layer glove but also not a true single layer one either. Though it acts like both designs which means the MXF PRO RIDER S glove from Five will suit a lot of hands out there.
