THE DIRT TURNS ONE!

Happy Birthday to us! The Dirt made it a full lap around the sun and I couldn’t be any more proud.

This platform had been in the works for a few years before its February 1st, 2019 launch and to have been live for a year now I think is awesome! We have had a lot of amazing times here at The Dirt and we want to share them with you below. Plus like any good birthday, we have a load of presents to give away from those who have supported us over the last 365 days. But first…some stats.

It seem like over half of you get to The Dirt from good old Facebook. This platform is a really handy tool when it comes to promoting what we are doing and what is new and fresh on the site that might interest you. That means you guys and girls are heading here for a specific blog you want to know more about..

This is great data because it tells us what you like, as apposed to going direct to the homepage and browsing around, looking for something that tickles your fancy.

We are particular happy with the Google stats too, because that means some of you are googling us or we have specific content you have searched for on Google. Yay - you found us! come back again soon.

And as for those that come direct to the site. We love you! You just head here because you know you will find something that interests you. Thanks for the faith and commitment. you guys are the best!

Mobiles rule. In a day and age where no one has any spare time left and everyone is either in a hurry or wants stuff done right now, the mobile device is King. A whopping 62% visit The Dirt from their mobile device, so as you know, our mobile friendly site really helps you and your thumb scroll through the content.

However - we can’t forget those old school Desktop users who are happy to mouse around through the site while (lets be honest here) probably at work. We won’t tell. The Dirt is a great smoko pastime, and lunch pastime and for whenever there is a computer around really. SO we appreciate you clicking on us when you have the chance.

We have had well over 40,000 page views this past year and nearly 23,000 unique visitors to The Dirt. That is over 760 page views a week!

Yeah compared to other places on the web those aren’t huge numbers, but for a site dedicated to the small sport of off-road dirt bikes with very specific content, that a pretty awesome result and shows you come for that specific content!

So again thanks to you all out there for spending some of your time here with us.

Some of our favourite images from our first year

The Husqvarna 701 was one of the first bikes we were given to test, thanks to the team from KTM New Zealand and it did not disappoint. The way it looked, the way it rode and the combo of the white Fox V3 helmet, white 100% goggles and white leather Shift jacked looked legit AF. insert drool and love eyes emoji.

During the MY2020 Beta Launch, I enlisted the help of Karl Power to get some photos done for the site. This may not look like much but its a very steep hill after crouching and ducking under a low hanging tree. The Beta RR300 had torque to burn and Karl was struggling to keep the front wheel down.

Round 1 of the 2019 Motocross Nationals at Barrett road saw some good racing go down in all classes. Race two for the MX2 class saw some serious over watering of the track and a shit tone of goggle malfunctions and dismounts during that race.

Just the Fox V3 Helmet in general - it looks fricken bad ass.

And of course the team that run the show here - What a wonderful Christmas it was with Lottie, Pixie and Suzi.

But enough of the past…it’s time to move forward, and in the very near future we will be giving away a bunch of cool prizes to you out there as our way of saying thanks for tuning is and taking part. We know there is a huge world out there with more information than you could ever imagine.

So believe me when I say thank you very much for choosing us as part of your journey. Now, the cool stuff.

GIVEAWAY 1 - Set of the new Dunlop MX53 Tyres

Thanks to the team at Forbes and Davies, we have a set of the new Dunlop Geomax MX53 tires to give away. All you have to do is be following The Dirt on Facebook and Instagram and look out for the post to enter. Then just tag a mate and you are in the draw.

MX53 Specs

  • The front tire has been redesigned with a taller profile to offer a larger contact patch, providing gentler handling, a higher lean angle and better maneuverability.

  • MX53 front tire blocks are 1mm higher and have been redistributed to give riders better steering feel and more biting edges.

  • A horseshoe pattern of blocks on the front tire reduces the stiffness in the center of the tire to offer greater ride compliance. The unique pattern of the horseshoe blocks also grabs the dirt to provide better braking grip.

  • Block-In-A-Block technology has been added to the front tire of the MX53 in order to aid in linear tracking and improved steering.

  • The altered Block-In-A-Block shape on the rear tire allows for added flex in the knob to enhance grip while providing stability and slide control.

  • Front and rear tires include tie bars between select knobs to reduce flex at the base of the knobs, improving durability.

  • Dunlop’s Advanced Apex Design improves shock absorption by diffusing shock through a taller, thinner apex inside the sidewall.

  • New compounds on the front and rear tire enhance durability and longevity.
