STORY BY PICTURES: 2020 HONDA KIDS CAMP - LAKE ROTOITI
The first of the very popular Honda Kids Camps kicked off at Lake Rotoiti during the second weekend of January and it was a real zinger of a camp. Heaps of families attended in all different variations AND enjoyed four days of riding swimming and relaxing at arguably the best location around. Here are just a few stories from the camp.
The 2020 Honda Kids Camp blew out all the camping spots at Lake Rotoiti this year with a lot of families and friend occupying nearly all of the camping space!
It’s not a terrible sight at night either with the main tent looking like housing a evening disco for the kids.
Registering is easy with families arriving from Wednesday evening all the way till Friday night and even Saturday morning.

The most important aspect of Camp Life when you arrive is to mark your territory. The Dirt Sharks were fierce at Lake Rotoiti and claimed one of the track access point for quicker ride times.
Sometimes you just need a little help. And thanks to Bay Honda, all those who needed it were taken care of. They not only fixed broken bikes, they educated riders on bike maintenance and provides advice on products and gear. Check them out if you are even in The Bay.
The Learner track is just for that - Learners and little kids. This track got a beating all camp long with the future stars of the sport doing lap after lap until they ran out of gas. and needed saving.
The fantastic weather was worth the trip alone, however it did bring with it a bit of dust out on the trail. That didn’t seem to stop anyone though.
But thankfully for everyone involved, Lake Rotoiti is a 10 minute walk from the camp and sports one of the best swimming spots in all of New Zealand. Ride by day and swim by afternoon. What more could you ask for.
It was even closer if you took your bike down for a swim or a ‘shower’ at the end of the day.
The treasure hunt is always popular too as the searching through the sand for the winning prizes kept everyone busy for an hour.
Once you found something it was time to clam the prize.
On top of that, the colouring in competition saw hundreds of entries with the winners here taking home awesome toys.
The winner of the Fox gear for 2019 turned up to Rotoiti and wore his kit for the first time. Looking good to we must say!
As the evening set on the last night of camp, the full moon looked down on everyone and smiled its moon-ie smile.
The next Honda Kids Camp is set for 28 February to 1 March at Lochinver Station just out of Taupo. This venue is visited once every two years and it another great venue with its own unique and exciting features. You can still secure yourself a spot by clicking HERE and registering now.
