THE CHAMP: HAMISH MACDONALD

“What a year! Coming away with the title of World Enduro Youth Champion – Another goal accomplished!” Hamish MacDonald talks through the last round, where he sealed the world title and how much it means to him.

The Champ with the huge smile.

“Day One - The game plan was to finish and score 9 points to take the Championship. (A finish of 7th or higher if my closest rival won on both days). Confident that this was possible, but pushing aside the thought that this was a race that something could easily have gone wrong, the orders were to play it safe and take no risks. P3 and Championship Win.”

“Day Two - Leaving my rivals to battle out their Championship placing I stayed safe - P3.”

Extreme tests don’t come any harder than in the World Championship.

“255 km of racing over eight hours took its toll on the 300 hundred competitors. This was one of the toughest events this year and the team at CH Racing were, as usual, a big part in ensuring the days ran smoothly. Fab and his team’s attention to detail has always been spot on and we all made the dream happen.”

“The township of Ambert and the crowds that turned up to watch were so passionate and loud. The Motorcycle Club behind the event put on an amazing, well run Enduro; even down to the town’s traffic management turning the streets into a one-way system, ensuring the thousands of spectators got to special tests in an orderly fashion! Even more amazing was that the pack down of the hundreds of kms of bunting/pegs/barriers was all achieved within hours of the event completion. Wow! It has been an exceptional experience to see the passion of the Europeans that turn up to watch these events.”

World Enduro GP is still popular with the euros.

“My family - brothers, Angus and Mitchell, worked tirelessly to produce the video and media coverage – Dad behind the wheel, getting them where they needed to be and mum for the encouraging and supportive words. Words cannot describe my gratitude. As a non-mainstream sport in New Zealand, it was great to see this made TV news coverage. Thanks to MNZ for organising this.”

”A huge part of my success must also be attributed to the Edmondsons, who offered me the chance to stay and train in England with some of the fastest Enduro riders in the world. Thanks also to the Sherco Factory who had the belief that I could achieve this and backed me by providing a bike for the season.
Last, but not least, a big thank you to all my supporters and friends.”

Team work makes the dream work.

“I’m heading home to chill out for a month, then back into some training. Next year? We'll keep you all posted on upcoming news.”
