TESTED: FOX MOTION X BOOTS

The new Fox Motion X boots hit the market late last year with new updates to pretty much the whole boot from its original predecessor. We snagged a pair and headed out on an adventure with the family and got these things a little dusty…and a smidgen moist.

This is my second set of the Fox Motion boots, originally called the Motion Pro. Now striped back to just Fox Motion, however these are the X model, denoting they are designed for the off-road world, as apposed to the MX track. This is evident primarily with the chunky grip on the soles and also the waterproof membrane. This second iteration marks a solid improvement step up, to what was an already extremely comfortable boot.

This boot takes cues from the also-updated Fox Instinct, and more aligns it with its large more moto-orientated brother. It is marketed at the intermediate-advanced level rider, looking for performance through a wide range of situations.

I have gone on record saying that the Alpinestars Tech 7 boot is possibly the most comfortable boot straight off the rack with virtually zero bedding in period. First Motion Pro boot I tried gave me that same feeling, and I am happy to report that the Motion X continues on that trajectory. It is such a comfortable boot right from the first gear shit, which, to me at least, gives me confidence that I can wear the boot al do with no issues.

If you are a fan of black, the Fox have you covered as the Motion X only comes in black.

Adventure riding, along with any off-road discipline usually sees a plethora of different conditions. One minute you can be skirting dusty trails, the next in the loamy forest tracks, and by the afternoon crossing riders or blowing through a wintery story. The Motion X is a boot that can handle it all.

I like that it has a waterproof membrane to keep most of the water out. I say most as I put a foot down in shin-deep water and after about 10 seconds, I felt the water slip into the gap where the front flap straps to the main boot. Inevitable I guess but up until that point, splashes and rain saw my foot still cozy and dry.

The other aspects that works is the grip the soles gives. It’s quite chunky pattern and very helpful for when the going gets tough and you need some grip on the terrain. Then there are the updated buckles. These are fantastic. East to lock into place and they even allow for a little rotation with the round finger. It is a really strong ‘Clip’ into place feeling that gives you piece of mind around accidental un-clips. To date the boots have never come undone so another quality finishing touch.

But for me, the real standout is the comfort. They were comfortable from day one and have remained so ever since. Much like your old favorite pair of jeans - just wonderful.

Give em a whirl at your local dealer when you are contemplating your next pair of boots. Not all feet are made the same, but if yours are anything like mine, the Fox Motion X make you contemplate your final choice for sure.
